Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department History

Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department was created in March 1982 and was incorporated in Arkansas on February 26, 1986. Many public officials and companies were involved in making the Mt. Vernon VFD successful. The Mt Vernon VFD moved from its original location, beside the Mt Vernon Community Church, to its current location built in 2005.

Mt. Vernon VFD now has two engines, one tanker, and one brush truck.  Mt. Vernon VFD is supported by insurance turnback money, a contract with the Mt. Vernon Fire Protection District, fundraisers, and grants.

Mt. Vernon VFD is a part of the Columbia County Firefighters’ Association that supports radio communications across all departments.

Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department serves the Mt. Vernon community outside of Waldo, Arkansas, and we are located in Columbia County.

Mt. Vernon VFD’s mission statement is to safeguard the health, homes, and property of the Mt. Vernon and surrounding communities by offering caring, skilled fire protection and related services to our growing, diverse, and inclusive community.

All fifteen fire departments in the county have a concurrent mutual aid agreement and Mt. Vernon VFD has automatic aid agreements with two departments.
